The Story Of God’s People — Exodus From Egypt

by | Apr 29, 2023 | 17 Time Periods | 0 comments

The fifth of the 17 time periods is the Exodus From Egypt.  This week we will discuss the birth of Moses, his call to free the Israelites, the plagues, crossing of the Red Sea and receiving the law at Mount Sinai.  It’s difficult to choose which event to spend the most time on.  They are all so fascinating.  Since the time period is called Exodus From Egypt, we will spend considerable time with the events leading directly to and including the crossing of the Red Sea and then spend most of our time at the foot of Mount Sinai to discuss the law.  This is the point where God fulfills His first promise to Abraham.  He has made Abraham’s descendants a nation of their own with a massive population, a law to abide by and Himself as their king.

Old Testament Books:

The kids were excited to start their paper chain of the Old Testament books last week.  I also introduced a “new to me” Old Testament Book song.  I have never really taught an OT books song.  I know there are one or two favorites used by most of my brethren but they just never really stuck with me.  I discovered this one while perusing Youtube.

Here is a link to my version of it:

And a link to a PDF I created for those of us who find it easier to learn a song by reading the music (or is it just me):

Review Previous Lessons Using: The Complete Cycle Spiral from Creation to Revelation.

Lesson:  Exodus From Egypt

Emphasis on the plagues, crossing the Red Sea and receiving the Law.

Sing The 10 Plagues by Glenda Schales:

Bulletin Board Activity:  Add Exodus from Egypt picture.  Let students take turns putting small pictures in the correct pocket.

Feed The Bot:  This is a fun way to review a lesson.  It can be done with questions on one side of the card and answers on the other as found in my original post.  But this time there will be a picture of an event we have discussed on one side (pictures from Creation to Revelation) and the time period it belongs in on the other.  Students will choose a card from the deck, look at the picture, state which time period it is in, then insert it (picture up) in the Bot and it will come out the bottom with the answer facing up.

Hymn: This Is My Father’s World

Old Testament Challenge: Give some time to add paper chains.
