Teaching Tips

by | Jan 7, 2011 | 13 comments

Everyone has their own teaching style.  While teaching is a creative process, we must be careful not to become creative with the content of our Bible classes.  The activities and decor of our Bible class should enhance the Bible lesson at hand, not dominate it. We need to remember that the Bible is our focus. If we are not careful, our classrooms and our methods of teaching can be more of a distraction than an aid. Prioritizing our teaching tasks to make sure that everything we present to our children helps them learn about God and His plan is essential.

Hi Diana! I am looking for an example of a lapbook I can make to review the books of the Bible. I am sort of envisioning it in my brain…but sometimes have trouble getting it to come out right! haha. Have you made a lapbook or file folder game of this sort? I am thinking about having the little flip books for the books for each section. But I also want to make it interactive in someway…maybe velcro the books in order. Any help or suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated! I teach 4th quarter (Deut, Josh, Judges and Ruth). I am very excited!!

I just discovered your blog. Do you have notebooks for the children’s memory work each quarter. I’m looking for new ideas for memory work. It seems as time goes by it is getting harder to get children and parents to do a memory verse for each week. I’m looking for new ideas to encourage both the parents and the children. I would also like to know how to find the link to the “Mark You Bible” leaflet. Thanks for all the hard work that you do.

How about making a cell phone video each week of the kids making up their own memory verse chants/songs? If you get the chance to show this in “big” church, perhaps you can motivate parents to get more involved at home. They could even make their own videos there to share with the class. One of my grandsons learns his Awana verse each week this way. We’ve put some of them on our website at:

I too was sad to see the other site down, and then so excited to find this one up! I love, love, love your fresh ideas and precious songs. Thank you for all of your hard work and sharing it with so many. You have inspired me to be a better teacher to my children and to my bible class students.

I am very excited and happy to learn that you have created a new website! When you announced that the old one was shut down indefinitely I was disappointed. Fortunately, among other materials, I printed out enough copies of the “Mark Your Bible” leaflet to provide enough copies for the 7 in the class I am teaching.

Do you by chance have a “brief chronology of the bible” class that I might use for teaching the class here?

Thank you for all your hard work and sharing.

One of the “easy” ways to do a “life of Jesus” lesson is to use the song “AMEN”. Put a picture up of each Jesus story as you tell it and have the kids make up a verse to go with the story. Each week the “AMEN” song gets longer and each week the kids see/sing the review of the stories that they have learned. We did this several years ago with our neighborhood kids’ klub and when we were done (we did about 13 lessons beginning with Jesus’ birth and ending with His ascension) we recorded the song and put it to the pictures and made a video of it for our whole neighborhood for Christmas.

Good job!!! I will be checking back for ideas. This will be helpful for those of us who have taught for years, as well as for those who are just starting out.
