Drop What You’re Doing And Pay Attention

This week God has permitted man to see what previously was hidden. I must admit, I am not too sure what the pictures sent back from the James Webb Space Telescope are. The birth of a star? The death of a star? Many, many universes dancing around each other? I will have to take the word of the scientists. But one thing is sure. Our God is exceedingly more amazing than I can even imagine.

Why has God chosen now to reveal these mysteriously, gorgeous images to us? Why has He chosen to give us a “drop what you’re doing and pay attention” shout from the heavens.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.” Psalm 19:1

God has blessed us with beauty beyond any of our imaginations. He has offered us safety and security in homes He has designed. With fathers and mothers who love each other and who welcome the children God blesses them with in their homes. The family is a beautiful thing.

What does man offer God in return? He has destroyed every semblance of beauty, safety, and love that the family offers. By attempting to erase all signs of gender the father and mother are erased. By flooding every corner of our society with pornography, love and trust are destroyed. By devaluing the role of the wife and mother,  natural affection for children has been turned into a slaughter field of the innocent.

In the midst of all this chaos and evil that man perpetuates, what has God given us? Opportunities that our ancestors could only dream of. Beautiful images of unborn babies moving around freely inside the comfort and safety of the mother’s womb. Beautiful images of life under the sea where creatures have lived since the beginning but are only visible to the human eye when God chooses to allow man to see it. Beautiful images of the heavens. The very heavens that were created just days before man was created.

A new type of giant hydroid – a coral relative – was discovered on this expedition, standing over 1 m (3.3 ft) tallSchmidt Ocean Institute

Ever since that sixth day of creation, man has looked to the skies with wonder. Now, with the aid of a telescope God has allowed man to create, He has given us a small glimpse into the vastness of His creation.

  • For those who believe and look to the heavens with praise and thanksgiving, it is a thing of beauty that offers us reassurance of the hope that is in us.
  • For those who disbelieve and look to the heavens to find confirmation of their hypothesis about the how we all got here, they “oooh” and “aaah” but offer no praise or thanksgiving to the One who created it all.

But they will. They all will. Those who have denied His existence. Those who have killed their babies. Those who have taken away the identity of the weak. They will bow down to Him and with trembling fear, praising Him, and glorifying His name.

“…that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”  Philippians 2:10-11

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!” Psalm 150:6
